Trade the Past, Play the Future!

February 20th, 2007 Posted in Business, Hardware, Nintendo DS, PSP, Portable

Even the retailers are now turning their backs on the PSP, as a post on NeoGAF shows an EBGames advertisement of a trade-in promotion. The ad states that the Nintendo DS, Playstation Portable, and Gameboy Advance SP are the past, and that the DS Lite is the future. Funny as it may look, the ad does hold some truth to it. With the DS Lite’s sales leading the charts for almost a year now, there is no reason to think that the marketing at EBGames would make any big difference.

There are still a few promising titles to be released on Sony’s portable, and there are a few must have titles for the platform. The PSP is still doing good, mostly because of its multimedia support, and of course all the homebrew emulations and apps that are available.

who in the right mind would trade in a PlayStaion Portable for a 100$ just to pay an extra 35$ for a ds!

good question.. probably the token who wrote this article!

Doesn’t really make cents. You never get a proper deal with these kinds of plans. Like what’s a psp worth? Probably around double of what the DS is worth, yet you still only get $100 off.

Well, The PSP would be used, that degrades the price. Not to mention that it’s being traded in so you get even lower from that. Even so, it should be at least $150, they might be offering a free game.

    Uhhh…

Second hand PSP is worth a lot less than a new one. Say 50-60% realistically. Check ebay for second hand consoles.

Half retail even of an overpriced console like this is £80 odd so its a good discount.

The retailer has to sell the shit heap afterwards so can hardly give you £150 for it if they only sell for £80. Only Sony is stupid enough to loose money hand over fist on games products like this.

They should add the PS3 to the bottom image its defunct unwanted technology already

What a ripoff! A measly 100 bucks of a DS-Lite from a PSP trade in!? No way in hell would a PSP owner be stupid enough to do that. I would have to say that if you own a PSP then you bought it for it’s multi-media capabilities, awesome graphics, and mature games which is exactly why its selling right now. As a matter of fact I’m thinking about trading in my DS for a PSP.

    Oh the hilarity.
