ATI R600 DX10 Graphics Cards Delayed

ATI’s, or AMD’s, upcoming graphics chip has been delayed for a few months into Q2 2007. Orignally scheduled for release next month, the R600 was meant to finally give Nvidia’s 8800 series some competition, as it’s the only hardware that supports DirectX 10. AMD released a short statement:
“To better align our strategy with current market opportunities, we’ve changed the launch plan for R600. We are going to deliver a competitive configuration to market with an extremely attractive combination of performance, features and pricing, targeting a broader market segment in Q2.”
While the statement is your usual marketing mumbo jumbo, there are still no games supporting DX10, and with Windows Vista’s disappointing sales, there’s no real reason to release the hardware just yet. Pictured above is the high-end version of the R600, the longest graphics card ever made.

Good move by ATI, now they can release more products that cover the entire market, from low end to high end. There are five R600 flavours in development, all are expected to be realesed at the same time (in Q2).
