Apparently Sony is only saving a measly $27 for taking out the Emotion Engine hardware in the PS3. Your disappointment and anger of not being able to play more PS2 games than before is only worth $27 to Sony.

Imo stupid move. Over a hundred million ps2 owners out there who now don’t have the certainty of being able to play their old games on the new console.

Makes ex ps2 owners more likely to consider an alternative.

Doubt sony themselves will go for emulation its costly and only necessary for wii because the older consoles didn’t use disc

They are taking it out to reduce the cost of the production so they can get closer to “breaking even” by middle of next year, as it says on this website;

Wouldn’t you want to try to at least trade your PS2 in for more spending money on PS3 games? Now it just becomes a paperweight until you want to play all your old games.
