After the high price of the European PS3 was revealed, people were already hesitant to buy the console. But now, Sony has revealed that the PAL PS3 will not have the Emotion Engine microprocessor, nor the Graphics Synthesizer drawing circuit. What does this all mean? Less PS2 games will be able to be played on the PS3, as the console will rely on software to emulate the game. Currently, the US and Japan versions of the PS3 play about 98% of all previous generation games.
“Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3,”
For all you European PS3 gamers out there, you better not sell off your PS2.

WTF.. They already HAD backwards compatibility. They took it OUT, that’s not concentrating on it at all, they had it there in the first place. Why take it out if it already works?

5They are taking it out to reduce the cost of the production so they can get closer to “breaking even” by middle of next year, as it says on this website;

Wouldn’t you want to try to at least trade your PS2 in for more spending money on PS3 games? Now it just becomes a paperweight until you want to play all your old games.

6Haha, another indication of why us Euro are assholes to Sony.

7They said they weren’t going to put in any effort in emulation.
If they’re worried about price then they should change their whole strategy.

13I think he means that sony is the bear, once strong and powerful, now sick and wounded.

14oh, kinda a crap metaphor. should have been something like…sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear is sick an dying and under-weight, so you go have a wee.

16Imo stupid move. Over a hundred million ps2 owners out there who now don’t have the certainty of being able to play their old games on the new console.
Makes ex ps2 owners more likely to consider an alternative.
Doubt sony themselves will go for emulation its costly and only necessary for wii because the older consoles didn’t use disc

17But does a movie make up for not being able to play all your games?

18i might as well get a PS3 from america, so much cheaper, and i wouldn’t be able to play most of my ps2 games anyway.

20Here’s some bad news I read from this article here;
http://www.playfuls.com/news_06339_How_Sony_Killed_the_PlayStation3_and_NOT_Just_in_Europe.html
Apparently Sony is only saving a measly $27 for taking out the Emotion Engine hardware in the PS3. Your disappointment and anger of not being able to play more PS2 games than before is only worth $27 to Sony.

21^the price is still the same, paying more for less. american companies are the worst to foreigners, treating them like shit.

23bastards, i’m screwed. twenty seven dollars!? i’m pretty sure that if we knew, europeans like me would gladly pay an extra $27 to be able to play ps2 games. my friend has got one now, so i’m gonna see how he copes before i get mine. fuckers.
