DVD Upscaling on PS3 & Picture Technology

When speaking to N’Gai Croal in an interview, Phil Harrison revealed some interesting information about the future of the PS3.

“You know, we’re not sure when it’s coming, but we’re going to have DVD upscaling on Playstation 3.”

This would mean that DVD videos would, of course, be in higher resolutions, such as 720p. But, this is not completely confirmed, as not much has been said about it. Nonetheless, it would be a great feature, especially for something trying to be sought after as more than just a gaming machine

Harrison also said something about the alleged face recognition video we had posted back in December. The video had shown that the picture slideshow had known where every single face was in nearly every picture. That technology is in fact not just a coincidence, but something being rendered in real-time developed by Sony Research Labs. The company plans to utilize these features in the future. More information will probably be revealed at Harrison’s Game Developer’s Conference keynote presentation, along with other rumored things.
