Microsoft has recently released a “fix” for a security vulnerability that could Xbox 360 owners to run their own applications and operating systems.
The hacker tells that he had discovered a way to break through the shield and run their own software, including systems such as Linux on the Microsoft console. The hacker has soon cooperated with Microsoft to fix this issue.
“Together with a method to inject data into non-privileged memory areas, this vulnerability allows an attacker with physical access to an Xbox 360 to run arbitrary code such as alternative operating systems with full privileges and full hardware access,”
Microsoft doesn’t describes the Xbox update as a security fix. Instead they list it is an “operating system update”, without publishing a changelog. The update was done via Xbox Live, any game released after 20. February 2006 will have this fix included, the representative said.
The original Xbox is still a popular hacker target. Mod-chips for the Xbox called let consumers play pirated discs and other applications. The challenge for hackers is to bypass the protection and run their own homebrew code or load another operating system.

1huuu… so this “Hacker” “Cooperated” with Microsoft… Yeah right! If you cooperate with a company that makes something your trying to hack makes you more like a… huh I don’t know… a “TOOL”! I’m pretty sure that he’s cooperating with the lawsuit rather than Microsoft. I saw the Video on youtube about this. It was lame and this “Hacker” went Way out of his way to keep his identity safe.
He’s not a hacker, He’s more like a tool ;P

2He actually did, after getting pressure from Microsoft he co-operated WITH them not with the lawsuit, he actually co-operated to help Microsoft with this security vulneribility.
Microsoft released this quietly via Xbox live. The hacker didn`t want to really hack and then earn money for what he did. He just did it to tell he`s friends how “1337″ he is.
Please give me a link to source, I have a link for my article. So I`m expecting one from you, youtube is NOT enough.

3People should still be able to do whatever they want with what they buy. It just sounds stupid that a user isn’t allowed to have privileges over the whole hardware. WTF. The user BOUGHT IT. Microsoft just have to control Everything!

4Well as far as I know no hacker was able to meet the challenge this one dude with a PS3 presented. If you could hack into his PS3 he would give it to you. Still it seems like when it comes to digital products there is no uncrackable code. At least not from what I have seen … though there are no viruses or hacking attacks on the Mac as far as I know. So maybe we should all switch over to Macs. Hmmm. makes you think.

6Anuban the first Mac virus has been made. And it was in summer 2006. So Mac is NOT virus-free. If Apple computers grows, hackers will try to hack apple computers.
They dont hack windows because they “hate”, but because Microsoft is the biggest O/S, and is causing more damage.
85% of the PC`s in the world has windows.
