65nm PS3 Cell Production Begins
March 13th, 2007 Posted in Business, Hardware, PlayStation 3
IBM has announced that a 65nm Cell processor has begun production. This would mean that the production costs of the Playstation 3 will be significantly lower than what it is now. That does not nessacarily mean that you’ll be seeing a price drop anytime soon, seeing as Sony is losing a lot of money for just selling PS3’s at their current cost. However, the processor will contribute to better performance and lower power consumption. Expect the processors to be ready by late 2008 or early 2009.

Late 200 or early 2009? I think you’re talking about 45nm. 65nm is either already ready in the PS3, or will be in them by years end.
