IBM has announced that a 65nm Cell processor has begun production. This would mean that the production costs of the Playstation 3 will be significantly lower than what it is now. That does not nessacarily mean that you’ll be seeing a price drop anytime soon, seeing as Sony is losing a lot of money for just selling PS3’s at their current cost. However, the processor will contribute to better performance and lower power consumption. Expect the processors to be ready by late 2008 or early 2009.
