Microsoft: ‘One down, two to go’
March 20th, 2007 by Gibran Nawaz in Business, PlayStation 3, Rumor, Xbox360
We had reported yesterday that Devil May Cry 4 would no longer be a PS3 exclusive and would be heading to the 360 and PC. Now, Boris Schneider-Johne, Xbox Product Manager of Microsoft Germany, hints on his blog that two more big franchises will lose their exclusivity deal with Sony. After the quote, “One down, two to go”, there is a checklist with the titles Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, with Devil May Cry crossed off. Whether Schneider-Johne is just fooling around or if he’s actually serious that these games will be seeing a multi-platform release is unknown, but it definitely gives something for fans to think about.

Things are looking better and better for 360 owners … on the software side at least. Still not too happy about the new black 360 with HDMI/120 GB HD … screwing us early adopters … as usual. But when you buy a console at launch you do take your chances but wow only 16 months later and that much of an improvement …
Anyway it is good to see that the games are coming … I read on another thread how developers don’t have much interest in developing for the 360 … this shows just how incorrect that statement was. Bring them all on … Sony is losing the battle for exclusives … it is that simple.

This is to be expected, since CAPCOM is never be on good term with Sony (remember how Residence Evil 4 once would never be port on PS2?? and the guy actually said that he will cut his head of if it did….well) so it is easier for people at CAPCOM to switch but SquareEnix and Konami are different story.

Capcom’s good next gen games so far are all on the 360 platform anyway so they might as well make it three for the win and be one of the major names on the 360 front.

I hope MGS4 does come for 360. I want a 360 for Halo 3 but I also love MGS. If it came to 360, then I would be saved from the emotional torment my friends subject me too!

Good news for 360 owners and Devil May Cry 4 would bring more Japanese sales for the 360. I could see Square Enix projects on the 360. Square-Enix left Nintendo when Ninty was about to go downhill with the N-64. Now it looks like Square will do the same thing only with Sony. Game companies aren’t stupid. If they want the sales and the money, they gotta port it to 360. Unless the PS3 comes back with a great comeback, I see alot of exclusives going to 360.

It’s all about economics and the true nature of business. Take any intro business course and they will tell you point blank … the real purpose of being a business is to generate profit. So these companies are going where the money is … just like they did when the PS2 was hot and like the gold prospectors waaayyy back … you go where you can strike it rich. Gears of War certainly helped show devs that there is plenty of money to be made on the 360 if you make a compelling game … visually in this case.
