Xbox Live Hacked, Accounts Stolen

March 21st, 2007 Posted in Business, Xbox 360

A group of hackers known as the “Infamous Clan” has hacked several Xbox Live accounts. via a breach on Bungie’s official website. Gamers with Windows Live ID’s (formerly known as .NET Passports) have discovered their points missing or purchased something that they are not aware of. Microsoft has the following to say:

Recently, there have been reports of fraudulent activity and account theft taking place on the Xbox LIVE network. Security is a top priority for Xbox LIVE, and we are actively investigating all reports of fraudulent behavior and theft. Any customer with a question about the security of their Xbox LIVE account should contact 1-800-4-MY-Xbox, and an Xbox Customer Service Representative will help them understand our security policies and procedures.

That means that Microsoft doesn’t even know what the security breach is or how to stop it. People who are asking about the issue have complained about the staff’s lack of help. But who can blame them; what does Microsoft, the leader of all things computer software, know about malicious hacking?
