Mortal Kombat VIII to be an MMORPG?
March 25th, 2007 by Gibran Nawaz in Action, MMO, PlayStation 3, RPG, Rumor, Wii, Xbox360World of Kombat, here we come! In the April (yea) edition of Official Xbox Magazine, there is a blurb in the rumor section saying that Mortal Kombat VIII will be an MMORPG. It’s easy to say that it is the April edition of the magazine, therefore it is an April Fool’s joke. But, there actually might be some truth behind it.
Last year, Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, said the following last year during the annual Fight Night chat:
“Mortal Kombat 8 is going to start from scratch on a number of levels. It will also go in a direction that nobody is going to expect… and our thing that you’ll hear about very soon are all going to be new to this game. It’s going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen before.”
The same can be said about any video game sequel in history, but you never know. It might not be so bad trying to level up Johnny Cage’s sun glasses.

If they take the Shaolin Monks gameplay, this would totally work. the “Kreat a Kombatant” thing from Armageddon already shows that making your own fighter works in this franchise.
However… I’m not sure you can sell an MK game without Scorpion, Sub-Zero, etc. If they can include a portion where you can pick existing characters for fights, it might work.

They can sell the game. theyll be Bosses or Legendary Images that you can fight for or duel for power/ class advancement. Now that I think of it This, this might be a real good idea if they do it right. But you have to think about the whole MMO thing about servers and ping. I might win due to location and lag problems. When it comes to fast paced games like MK and Street fighter… Lag = death. I hope they work that out
but ill check it when it comes out
