DMC4 Complaints Have “Hit a Cow and Then Exploded”

March 28th, 2007 Posted in Action, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Following last weeks announcement that Devil May Cry 4 is also being developed for PC and Xbox 360, a very small but vocal segment of Capcom fans felt that the company was spurning the PS3. An internet petition, threatening to boycott the publisher’s product, was started, which at the time of writing, had over 10,000 signatures, most of which are tongue-in-cheek jabs at the more earnest fans.

A complaint thread was also opened on the official Capcom forums, prompting an official response from the company. “We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes,” said Christian Svensson, senior strategic planning and research director. “At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we’re not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers.”

The thread has since been closed, with him observing that “it seems to have run its course, gone off course, rolled down a cliff, hit a cow and then exploded.” Rightly so.

I don’t know why they feel they need to explain themselves to a bunch of braindead, whiny, idiotic, PS3 fanboy assholes. I really don’t … anyone who is over 13 who doesn’t understand that this is a business and businesses are all about making money and Capcom needs to make as much money as possible if future next gen games for EITHER console are going to be any good. If you want the games that they make and they don’t run on the PS3 then do what you PS3 fanboys are always telling us 360 owners … GO BUY ONE! I am so sick of this whole thing. I hope it really is over but there are too many fanboy idiots around so I doubt this is really the last we hear of this. I just hope that RE5 will definitely be on the 360 and will be good. If not then down the line when I do get a PS3 (oh yes I will get one at some point so that I have all the consoles and can make direct comparisons myself) I can play it. See no whining. I understand how business works and that decisions need to be made. I’m even over my illogical hatred of all things EA (even though imo they really are a horrible gaming company for the most part … but occassionaly even they get things right) and plan on getting Crysis as well as Hellgate London and Army of Two as well as Battlefield BC. Anyway people just need to stop being so foolish and trying to dictate to companies what they need to do. Learn to develop games (as I am doing) and then start your own company and develop for whatever platform you want to (but if you choose just one I can guarantee you won’t last).

It would save people a lot of time if kids realized that a business is all about making money and going in the direction that leads to money. If making games for multiple platforms means money, you can’t really stop them by petitioning anything.
