Mayor Bloomberg not Happy with GTA IV
Politicians over at New York City are not too pleased with the latest Grand Theft Auto IV trailer which was debuted not too long ago. The trailer revealed to fans that the title would be held in New York City. The representatives of Mayor Bloomberg, as well as the cops, are saying that the setting of the game is farfetched since the city is the safest in America.
“It’s despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be,”
The entertainment industry has conceived NYC as one of the most crime filled cities in America. If the mayor isn’t saying anything about Spiderman, why should he be given a right to say anything about the game? First it’s from Thompson, and now it’s from the politicians. And we already know we’ll be hearing from the parents, the retailers, and the ignorant. Take Two needs a break.
In previous incarnations, players advanced through the game by killing cops, selling pornography to children and killing prostitutes.
Selling pornography to children? I’m going to go load up my old GTA games and see what the heck that is all about.

It is pretty simple … these types of asses don’t say a word when Hollywood comes knocking to make blockbuster movies with all kinds of violence in it … it is because Hollywood pays the cities it films in plain and simple … a game development company doesn’t have to give the locations that it represents to the player a single cent … that is why these politicians always talk crap about games but are silent on movies. If game development companies were forced to pay money to these cities then the whole issue would go away. Thank God that is not the case since Artist deserve as much freedom they can get from their respective medium. These politicians need to just give it a rest … it is not going to change and their is nothing they can do about thankfully without rewriting the 1st admendment.

Everyone’s been desensitized to the idea that movie’s influence people. Games are just starting to be controversial, especially games that use real locations and open environments. Spider-man 2 of course was an exception and was based on a movie, which was obviously not supposed to be take too seriously.

Are there any decent elected officials anymore (esp. in NYC)? Any rational human beings that hold a higher office (esp. in NYC)?! It’s scary how little a clue these du-bags have. They should be proud to be in what is going to be one of the highest-selling, greatest games in history, with probably a more realistic view of NYC than any other. Will be sure to virtually stop by in October and say “Hello”, Bloomy!

Its just a game. They should be honoured they chose NYC, not complaining about it. No one can say that their city has low crime, its everywhere. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening, or just because you’re paid to ignore it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening…

hopefully, they’ll be a part in the game where you get to stalk the mayor and blow up City Hall.

I think that would just make the situation worse

What about True crime NYC? that game sucked, and was in new york… but “its ok because he was a cop” and ummm… isn’t there a base for R-star in new york? oh yeah Rockstar New york… they certainly have the right to make there game anywhere they want… be it NY or even liberty city… They chose a fake name for a reason… they’d have to pay a ton of money to use the real names of cars and cities and buildings… but with fake names it’s like a slap to the face off all the d-bags who know what the trick is… and the fake names are funnier and they dont change the gameplay at all. GTA is the greatest series of games ever made and they wont stop making them anytime soon.
