Wii Sales Double of PS3

April 3rd, 2007 Posted in PlayStation 3, Wii

A recent report reveals that the Wii has sold more than twice units than the PS3. The numbers are 1.95 million units to 812,000 units. This is not too surprising, seeing as the sales charts have been hinting at a terrible loss for the PS3, but it just comes as a constant reminder.

Wii’s are still hard to find regularly at any retail outlet, leaving gamers to resort to waiting in a line outside of a store four months after launch. Prices on eBay are highly exceeding that of the retail price. The PS3, however, is still found collecting dust in most stores, and the prices on auction sites, such as eBay, are relatively close to the original price.

Sold twice as much since when?

  2. Gibran Nawaz Says:

Since the release of the two systems, Quartecks.

I keep hearing all these different numbers, is there any one site that has the TRUE sales? And in true sales I mean what people have bought not what has been bought by the stores…

“what people have bought not what has been bought by the stores”

Since the Wii sells out every time, I guess that the amount bought by the stores is a close figure to actual sales.

  5. Evander Says:

very true, but some sites say it has sold over 5 million and I thought it wasn’t even close to that yet?!

  6. Ruined Says:

Will have sold over 6 million now Evander.

Nintendo said in its last financial revision that over 6 million would be shipped and arrive in store before the end of the fiscal year (end of March). As Wii has been selling out as fast as it has been restocked its safe to assume this is all sold.

Will know for certain when Nintendo announces financial figures for the year (some point this month).

As another point of interest Chart Track (the UK independent sales chart) has announced PS3 sales have fallen over 82% this week with stock still plentiful. Something tells me Sony’s 165,000 week one was a load of bullshit

  7. Evander Says:

I read the same report Ruined, but the one I read also said they are doing the best in Spain. I think it was actually posted on this forum that 600,000 of 1 million sold through all of Europe, but maybe I read it wrong?

Anyhow, I see a lot of the PS3’s collecting dust and I’ve never even seen a Wii available to buy. I just wish it weren’t so hard to find the closest to correct numbers on the sales. Japan makes weekly reports, why is it so hard for everyone else to do that?

  8. Josh Says:

Oh no, how can us ps3 owners go on knowing that another console that is cheaper is selling better?!/end sarcasm. Who gives a fuck? I dont care if the wii outsold the ps3 or even somehow by miracle the ps3 outsold the wii, or the 360 for that matter, the only people that care about these sales figures are the companies themselves, and gay little fanboys who can say that their console is better because it sold more.

  9. Zac Says:

Yeah people like to think the most popular is the best, mainly because they have the particular console themselves and feel a kind of loyalty and like to see “their” company “win”.

Sales really don’t matter, but they can still be interesting to find out.

  10. dont delete this digitalcrap Says:

Beacuase PS3 cost more then twice then the game cube 1.1

    basic logic DUH!

  11. Monarky Says:

LOL Josh! Kick em where it hurts most, in te balls!!! hehe

The cheap arrogant little Wii bastards deserve it!!

Want a Wii??? ebay is full of ‘em so you can get em before they end up in dumsters or kicked to curb like little japanese shitzu dogs!!! hehe

  12. Zac Says:

How is cost MUCH of an issue? If someone really wanted a PS3 they’d have been saving before it’s release.

Wii, Gamecube 1.1? There’s a fair distance between the power and features of both consoles.

  13. THUNDERMARE Says:

people got to understand the logic that $600 and $260 are a lot different, if PS3 is to be sold at $250 we will see a lot more demand than what it is now, I am sure everyone whould agree,
oh and since I own both Wii and PS3 so I’m pretty sure I’m not saying this for anyone.

You’re sick in the head Monarky…

Anyway, numbers is important. Look at the gamecube. If a console dont sell very good, the software developers will not support it, and thus, because it has less interesting games, it will sell even worse. If the PS3 continues the same path as now, it’s sure to be a new gamecube. And then you PS3 owners will get less cool games.
