Atari Working on Community-Centric Project

atari_logo_1.jpgThough the article’s title states that the project has been revealed, it’s not. MCV reports that Atari, the financially troubled publisher, is working on a community-centric online game that will be bigger than the PS3 Home, according to Atari Online’s boss.

Apparently, PC will be the beginning. And that’s to say the least. “Phil Harrison had this big announcement of Game 3.0 and I think its great that he’s announced that because it will lend legitimacy to what we’re doing,” said Chris Bergstresser, senior VP Atari Online. “But it goes further than that. We feel user generated content is not just something you just let people dabble in, we feel that it is something where you give people the tools to do whatever the hell they want.”

No other information or details were disclosed.

While I only have a passing interest in Home, I thought that the lack of customizability of the space the player owns very restricting. People should be able to make their “apartment” structurally any way they like, instead of only being able to decorate it. If this project looks as good as Home and allows much, much more customizability then I’m all for it. As long as it isn’t a second SecondLife.

It could end up being a personalized Sims game, so which is worse?
