Xbox 360 Exposed

April 20th, 2007 Posted in Hardware, Xbox 360 by Gibran Nawaz

There were many accounts of retail stores breaking the street date of the Xbox 360 Elite, so of course gamers jumped at the chance and bought all that they could and put them up for bid on eBay. The Llamma was fortunate enough to get one and decided to open it up and expose all of the hardware to the world. Some interesting things found were a GDR-3120L FK78 DVD drive. This drive allows extraction of a drive key from it, unlike it’s BenQ counterpart. Inspection of the CPU and GPU are still unconfirmed, as the new die-shrink may indicate a 65nm processor, but it is not for certain. For a quick-fix of the dreaded red ring of death, Microsoft has added some epoxy around the CPU and GPU.
