The Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD war is going on, and though the former is apparently winning, HD-DVD won’t go down without a fight. Microsoft, a big supporter of HD-DVD, has taken it upon themselves to promote it: pick up the Matrix trilogy in HD-DVD and you’ll receive a free download of the Animatrix, great animated shorts based on the popular franchise, via Xbox Live.

The offer also extends to other free HD content like trailers from all three Matrix movies, as well as scenes from the movies like “Bullet Time in the Subway” and “Morpheus fighting Agent Smith”.
