Looks like someone at EA got a memo that Wii Sports is the new big thing. It’s not really surprising that a lot of companies are trying to appeal to the “casual market”. While it’s questionable whether most understand it’s not just about slapping together some mini games, or trying to make your brain a little bigger, they do understand there is money to be had. Where there is money, there is EA.
EA has appointed Kathy Vrabeck as head of the new EA Casual Entertainment, which is the new name of the offshoot company. EA has in the past had success with the POGO acquisition and straightforward casual games. Of course with Kathy only being a recent hire, it’s unlikely that we’ll see too much from the brand within this year. Still, EA has some interesting upcoming casual games on the Wii and DS that might be worth taking a look at.
