A lot of people tend to be to one extreme or the other about Myst. For some, it was a game that created a genre, boosted it into huge popularity, sold untold millions of copies and set records that lasted for quite some time. For others it was a boring one hit wonder, feature stills and puzzles that sometimes didn’t quite make sense. I remember the game fondly from my youth, but since the rise of the Adventure genre, it has quickly fallen again into obscurity. The Nintendo DS seems to actually be the first console that is a bit of a natural fit. Using the blue ocean strategy, Myst was a game that the masses simply adored, and the hardcore gamer scoffed at. We’ve already seen some successful adventure titles on the DS, and Myst is finally joining the party.
Yes it’s the same game as it was back in the early 90’s. However, it now contains the Rime Age which was added in earlier re-releases, as well as a brand new age built for the DS version. Currently the game is slated for a November release just in Europe, although if successful you can bet it will at least make its way to North America. The question remains, did you like Myst in the first place, and if you did, has it managed to hold up after all these years?
