About time the PS3 gets some positive sales news. GameIndustry reports that Sony has announced that the PlasyStation 3 has sold one million units in Europe and Australia. This milestone was reached in just over 9 weeks, which is quicker than both predecessors, the PlayStation and PS2. On the software side, Resistance: Fall of Man has sold 600,000 copies, with Motorstorm as the follow up with 500,000 copies sold.
In Japan, the PS3 has sold just over 900,000 units since it’s release in November, so the reception is clearly better in Europe and North America. In comparison, Wii has sold 2,5 million units in Europe and Australia, but it has been on the market since December. At this rate, the PS3 could easily math Wii sales in PAL regions.

1At this rate James, you could get a clue too & do some homework… PAL territories have 5 times the population of Japan, so I guess it’s doing far worse than Japan, furthermore, PS3 sold 500.000 the 1st week-end, nearly 800.000 the 1st month, so the last 2 months have been quite bad saleswise, the PS3 being trounced 2 to 1 & even 3 to 1 in some PAL countries by the Wii, wich was released back in December.
So 6 months after release, the Wii is trouncing the new released PS3… At this rate, the PS3 could hardly match Wii sales in PAL regions.
Cheers!!!

2Yes totally agree with GameGod.
Wii have constant high sales, the ps3 have low sales, and with this rate never caught the wii.

3@ James, sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, didn’t mean to be rude, but what you wrote is totally the opposite of the real situation… take care!

4I was referring to how many units each console sold in the beginning, and due to shortages, the PS3 has outsold the Wii in the first two months on the market in the PAL regions. The Wii would probably have done better, but shortages slowed down the sales.
Again, the initial weeks were compared, not the whole period of time of which the consoles were on the market.
The PS3 has sold 1 million in 9 Weeks, which is 111,000 per week.
The Wii has sold 2,5 million in 24 weeks (circa), which is 104,000 per week.
