UK Church To Sue Sony
June 9th, 2007 by James Hyde in Action, Business, FPS, Multiplayer, PlayStation 3The Church Of England is threatening to sue Sony for using the Manchester Cathedral in Resistance Fall of Man without their permission. They demand an apology and the removal of the game from store shelves as well. BBC writes:
The game, which has sold more than one million copies, shows a virtual shoot-out in the cathedral’s nave in which hundreds of soldiers are killed.
Sony has responded by saying they “sought permission when necessary”, but the Church says Sony didn’t ask them. Removal of the game is highly unlikely, so this will result in a lawsuit. The Church doesn’t want to be related to violent video games, especially since Manchester has had a series of gun related crimes lately. A Church spokesperson said:
“This is an important issue. For many young people these games offer a different sort of reality and seeing guns in Manchester Cathedral is not the sort of connection we want to make.
Sony have also stated that this is a recreation of the Church, it’s not a photo or video footage. Whether that will be sufficient in a court of law is to be determined.

Remember that it was Sony who also had a live goat slaughtered and its innards offered by bare-breasted women for game journalists to eat - all this to advertise another of their ultra-violent games, God of War II.
I see a pattern here…

“This just in, race track owner suing Sony because of scantly dressed women serving refreshments to the crowd in Grand Turismo.”

You know, this is so fucking sad. How would a church konw about this? This also reminds when doom first came out how the church tried to sue Id cuz hell couldnt get through portal. The government and the church needs to stay out of are games. They’re old timers, they of course hate it cuz never had it so they cant understand it.

Just because it happens to be a church taking legal action isn’t a reason to get on the religion/government soap box. This is a matter relating to a architectural building and the rights of the owner. While I don’t agree that they should take legal action as the building is so old, it is still their right to do so irrespective of religious background. If this were any other religious group people wouldn’t be anywhere close to up-in-arms, but since it’s related to Christianity it seems totally o.k.
