disney-logo.jpgDisney has been aggressively placing itself as a gaming house recently, but according to this Reuters report, their gaming division is only just starting. As per the report, the company will triple the amount of money it spends developing games.

“We are ramping up our investment in video games … It is a market where there is real opportunity,” said Disney CFO Tom Staggs.”Over the next five years or so we are ramping up to about a pace of $350 million per year in video game investment, principally consoles and handhelds.”

The company has already released quite a few hits including Spectrobes; it also has a Pirates MMOG in the making for release later this year. Disney doesn’t just plan on milking its many franchises, instead, the company is also hoping to create new IPs which can be “exploited”.
