Halo 2 Soon Playable On XP

As you know, in an attempt to secure more Windows Vista sales, Microsoft made Halo 2 a Vista-only title, despite the fact that it could run perfectly well on the much more popular Windows XP. A group of programmers called Falling Leaf Systems will release a compatibility software that would make it possible to run Halo 2 on XP. Here’s what they had to say:
“Microsoft has, in typical Microsoft fashion, decided to launch their forced migration onslaught in full force with the release of two games that will only run on Windows Vista. First they claim that it was impossible to implement DirectX 10 compatibility atop Windows XP, and now they also want us to believe that they couldn’t successfully launch two DirectX 9 based titles on XP either. We plan to expose both theories as patently false.”
Right on! Not that Halo 2 is a great game to begin with, the PC version actually sucks, but at least someone is trying to figure out how not to depend on Microsoft and their shady business practices. The software will be released for free sometime this summer. I’m sure Microsoft will have a thing or two to say. Or someone to sue.

Unfortunately Crysis DX10 version is Vista only. But there’s still the DX9 version, UT3, Spore and Quake Wars
