NPD May Breakdown

Near complete breakdown of the North American sales for the month of May are now available from NPD. For the moment the official numbers on the PSP and PS2 are still pending, but the ranking is official, with the PSP snagging third place overall. The numbers are pretty on track with what was predicted. It’s a little strange to see the DS without the gigantic lead that we normally see in Japan, but a marginal lead none the less. Given some increased production soon expected, we could see the Wii beating out the DS in North America. All console sales are down from last month, to varying degrees.
Nintendo DS: 423K
Nintendo Wii: 338K
Sony PSP: pending
Sony PlayStation 2: pending
Microsoft Xbox 360: 155K
Sony PlayStation 3: 81K
The software side of things were just as interesting. Diamond was significantly more popular than Pearl, while Nintendo proves it’s yearly Mario Party franchise could still move the units. The two games with the biggest tails are Guitar Hero and Wii Play. I guess hardware pack-ins really help things along. The 360 also had the most titles in the top ten, but hardware sales overall went down from last month.
Pokémon Diamond (DS)
Mario Party 8 (Wii)
Spider-Man 3 (PS2)
Pokémon Pearl (DS)
Wii Play w/remote (Wii)
Forza Motorsport 2 (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero II w/guitar (Xbox 360)
Spider-Man 3 (Xbox 360)
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero II w/guitar (PS2)
