Here is you daily dose of rumor for the day. Monkey Island which was a highly popular PC adventure game, like most of the other games in the Adventure genre disappeared into obscurity as that market crashed. Now Lucas Arts which owns the rights to the series may very well be making a sequel, but probably not for this year specifically:
Rumor Report Says, “…the fifth Monkey Island is coming. I know some of the guys who worked on the music compositions for the original PC classics, and they say that it is currently being planned amidst rumors. However, LucasArts has so many things on its belt right now, including a Wii title that has yet to be named. Don’t expect any revitalizations of its classic graphic adventures until 2008 at the earliest.”
All things are hearsay, although we do know LucasArts is in development of an unnamed Wii title. Most probably would hope it’s finally the Star Wars title we’ve been dreaming about since the inception of the Wii, but if they were to choose any system for Monkey Island, my first choice would be the Wii as well. Adventure games simply don’t belong on consoles, and that’s why they’ve crashed so hard. But recently the DS has been reviving the series thanks to the touch screen abilities, and the Wii point and click mechanic is just perfect as well. Like all things, we best wait until E3 before drawing any major conclusions.
