Two of the more mysterious games surrounding the Wii console have always been Disaster Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. One was announced at E3 2006, with some very small updates since then. The other was actually playable and we haven’t heard a peep about it since. This may very well be the final word on Project H.A.M.M.E.R., because insiders close to the studio developing the game are reporting it has been axed.

The effort also coincides with rumors IGN has been receiving about Nintendo trying to revamp some projects to make them more casual audience appealing. This would be a bit of a strange decision, which I can only question. If the project has been terminated, how long ago was the decision called? Unlike projects such as Disaster, the game had a playable demo at E3. Although that marks it far from complete, had the project run much longer than the showing at E3, it would have been an expensive endeavor to dispose of.

Of course nothing is official, but the fact that the rumor originates from IGN gives it more validity then the run of the mill stuff. It would truly be a sad day if the project was ditched altogether. But, we may just be getting ahead of ourselves (hopefully).
