EuroGamer reports that Sony is going to aggressively pursue hackers who try to “exploit” the PS3 following reports that the console’s anti-piracy software has been cracked.
Apparently, hackers have cracked firmware versions 1.10 and 1.11, allowing users to boot backup copies of their games. However, no one has been able to play bootleg games as of yet, but cracking system software is one step in that direction.
“The best we can do as a company is to make our security that much stronger and aggressively pursue legal action against anyone caught trying to use an exploit in an illegal manner,” said Dave Karraker, SCEA spokesperson.
Sony PS3 is the last console left untainted by piracy: both the Xbox 360 and Wii have been modded to run bootleg copies of games.
