Manhunt 2 Banned In The UK

June 19th, 2007 Posted in Action, Adventure, Business, PlayStation 2, Wii

dMore censorship incoming: Manhunt 2 has been banned in the UK for being “ultra violence and provocative nature”. The British Board of Film Classification had this to say about the game:

Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing.

In other words: to much to handle for the Brits. The game is scheduled for release net month on the Wii and PS2. Rockstar Games, who’s games have often been a controversy, have a right to appeal the decision. It is unlikely however, that the game will be released in the UK. Other European countries like Germany have even tougher laws on violent games, so it’s expected that the Germans will ban the game too (they banned Dead Rising last year).

Across the Atlantic, in the U.S., good old Jack Thompson has been trying to ban the game for months now. For him, it’s just another “murder simulator” that needs to be stopped.
