Bioware Developing a Sonic RPG

June 21st, 2007 Posted in Nintendo DS, Portable, RPG, Software

Yes, the developers of Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic (must we go on) is now tackling a Sonic RPG project, for the Nintendo DS. The game is set to release in 2008. This is not a joke, or a rumor, as a full fledged press statement is up on the Bioware website.

“BioWare is one of the hottest names in RPG development in the world,” said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. “Everyone at SEGA has huge confidence that Sonic is in the safest of hands, and that BioWare can create the ultimate handheld RPG experience for gamers of all ages.”

This is quite the news tidbit this morning. It seems like a bit of a wayward E3 announcement that crept into our waiting arms earlier than expected. The game itself should actually be a solid effort, given the developer (perhaps the first triple A sonic effort we’ve seen in years). Needless to say this is exciting news. If the weeks ahead contain more major announcements like this, consider us tickled.
