usasplashlg.jpgThe U.S. Army has announced that the upcoming July 4 will mark the fifth anniversary of the launch of the America’s Army PC game. Having debuted in 2002, the game, funded by American taxpayers, has had more than 8.5 million accounts and is one of the top ten action games played online.

The PC game has seen 23 releases so far, having logged over 200 million hours and over 40 million downloads. It is being expanded, and will head to the Xbox 360 this Fall. The brand has gone beyond PC gaming: the team launched the Real Heroes program in September 2006, exploring the Army’s values, among other things. They have also offered a Virtual Army Experience and is also used as training simulators for recruiting.

The fifth anniversary will be marked by the release of an all-new website, rendered in the Army’s new ACU camouflage pattern and featuring new content including developer-created wallpaper that provide a sneak peek at America’s Army 3.0.
