While lists are made to incite debate, it’s hard to argue with Edge Magazine’s top choice for the best video game of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sits atop the list above standard classics as Tetris and Super Mario World, as well as relative newcomers like Resident Evil 4, Halo and Final Fantasy XII.

Despite the decade that has past between its release on the N64 and the Virtual Console for the Wii, Ocarina stands out as the pinnacle of gaming, combining equal parts masterful gameplay and lasting storytelling, to earn the title of greatest game of all time (by one magazine’s estimation, anyway). Make the jump to view the list.

1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina

2. Resident Evil 4

3. Super Mario 64

4. Half Life 2

5. Super Mario World

6. Zelda: A Link to the Past

7. Halo: Combat Evolved

8. Final Fantasy XII

9. Tetris

10. Super Metroid

The complete list can be found in the July 3rd release of the magazine.

I’ve got no major problems with the top ten, though I’d supplant a few titles with different installments from their respective series (Resident Evil 2, FFVI/VII, and Super Mario Bros. 3, to be specific).
