A GT5 Delay Likely

For the many/few people who are waiting to buy a PS3 with Gran Turismo 5, the wait just got a bit longer. Director Kaunori Yamauchi said in an interview with Car and Driver Magazine that a Spring 08 release is possible, but expects Sony may hold it up until the end of the year if the necessary polish isn’t there.
What’s the cause for the delay? You guessed it, Frank Stallone. Actually, it takes one man 180 days to perfect a single car in GT5. Like any GT game, GT5 boasts a massive amount of vehicles, (over 700) so cause for the delay may be warranted, albeit disappointing. The necessary man hours are a significant (and expected) jump in automobile detail as GT makes its way to the PS3. GT3 cars took about a month, and the original GT cars took only a single day to craft.
Yamauchi also noted that crash damage has been dropped due to reluctance by some car makers to have their beauties smashed up on screen. He also cites implementing the perfect damage system would require crafting every panel of every car twice, once damaged and once not. It sounds like a tall order, but it’s not as if other games don’t have it. Forza, anyone? Though, Yamauchi later commented on the possibility of a damage system following the release in the form of downloadable content. The possibility does exist that you can see what every car on the planet looks like sporting a dented fender, or completely incinerated. As expected, he also confirmed downloadable cars are a certainty.
