PS3=Blu-ray galore

You read correctly, no errors and no typos. Since the launch of the PS3 in Europe, Blu-ray sales over there have increased not one, not two, but one thousand percent. If you’re not good with numbers, 1000% basically means huge. Apparently since the release of the PS3 in Europe, the sales of Blu-ray movie disks has reached 180,000, which is, as I mentioned, a 1000% increase.

“The launch of the PS3 had a tremendous impact on Blu-ray software sales across the board,” says Matt Brown, executive VP, international at Sony Pictures. “Recent sales figures are a clear indication that the PS3 is seen as an entertainment device.”

At least in Europe. The PS3 hasn’t increased Blu-Ray movie sales any where near as significantly in America. This is significant as far as the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war is concerned, as it seems that every time there is news about the format battle, it’s usual in the favor of Sony. It will be very interesting to see how Toshiba will go about countering this.
