Microsoft will release the Xbox 360 Elite console in Japan on October 11, despite the fact that the 360 is selling only a few thousand consoles a week. The “Elite” Xbox 360 comes in black, has an HDMI port, and a 120 GB hard drive. It will cost 47,800 Yen, or $389. The US retail price is $479. The usual press release/PR blah blah after the jump.

Xbox 360 Elite joins the ranks of our Core and Pro offerings that provide consumers with the flexibility to purchase the version of Xbox that best fits their unique needs,” said Peter Moore, the head of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, for the U.S. launch. “Xbox 360 Elite joins the ranks of our Core and Pro offerings that provide consumers with the flexibility to purchase the version of Xbox that best fits their unique needs.
