Review: Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree

July 6th, 2007 Posted in Multiplayer, Offbeat, Reviews, Wii by Eric Majewski

Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree is just like its little brother, a bunch of games, or as the game says “tests”, that show you how smart you are. It might sound boring with that little description I gave and it should, but just to a point. Like most Wii games this one won’t keep you occupied for too long.

This version of Big Brain Academy is the same thing, but one thing I did notice is this version is a lot easier. When I first tried this game, I never played these kind of games before, I scored a C+. Now that might not sound too great, but when I played the DS version, which I bought after I played this version, I got a D. If you don’t get what I am trying to say I will make it simple, the Wii version is easy, a bit too easy.

Any time I played the game after my C+ score I kept going up and up. I really doubt I got that much smarter that past because I didn’t even practice with the games. Every game on Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree is a no brainier, which is not the case for the DS version. I found myself getting bored real fast, but then I got to play with some other people, which is where very game for the Wii shines.

If you can get some other people to play Big Brain Academy with you, on a regular bases then you will have a winner here. Just being able to show off to your friends with your score/ranking is a lot of fun. The best game type for multi player is the speed version. You and the other players, I only played with one other person here, do random tests and after the first person completes them all they win.

Just like every other Wii release you pay $50 and you get mini games. If you have others to play with you’ll have a gay old time, if you don’t you will maybe play the game a little bit. Nintendo did add the feature where you can send your test results to your friends, but it won’t mean anything unless they have the game. It was a nice little feature, but I think a lot people would enjoy actual online play than just scores.

Final Verdict

I can’t justify the $50 price tag on this game, I did have fun when I played with others, but for a lot less I can get the DS version, which includes Wi-Fi play. Nintendo really needs to get into the online gaming picture; Big Brain Academy would have been an awesome game online. If online play was included then I could highly recommend this game, but like all the other mini games out there for the Wii this one will only collect dust after awhile. Play it safe, wait to see how all the other brain games are coming soon, Nintendo is planning on releases Brain Age very soon.

Overall Score: 6/10
