Retailers Saying PS3 Price Cut - Sony Denies It

Retailers across America are lowering their price by $100 on the PS3, selling the console at $499. People have been buying the consoles at the new price, showing receipts of their purchase, as Joystiq found out. Yesterday, Sony’s Ryoji Chubachi denied any plans of a price cut, but major retailers like Best Buy and Target suggest otherwise, as insiders say there is in fact a price cut coming. Perhaps Sony wants to wait until E3 for the “big announcement”. A price cut will sure help Sony, who’s PS3 is struggling behind the Xbox 360 and especially the Wii. But it is unclear if it will make the big difference, as the console sells for around $250 in Japan and is still trailing behind in sales.
