E3: Sony: 11 Million PS3s To Ship This Year

July 11th, 2007 by James Hyde in Business, E3, PlayStation 3

In a rather bold announcement at the Sony press event, Jack Tretton claims Sony will ship 11 million PlayStation 3s this year. He cites the new 80 GB version and the price cut on the 60 GB version as the big contributors.

Sony has so far sold under 4 million million units and shipped 5 million, 7 months into the year. Reaching 11 million in 5 months will be a tough challenge for them, it will probably result in a lot of PS3s collecting dust on store shelves.
