E3: July 11th-13th Recap

Seeing as how there was about a bazillion things that Digital Battle has to cover for E3, we’ve decided to make things easier for you readers by giving you a post now that E3 is over, to provide a source for all the hot news of the days before. The first segment is articles, the second part will provide links to announcements, and quotes from developers etc; and finally at the bottom, there are links to the trailers and videos that have been posted. It’s a long post, so I would recommend using your browser’s “find” feature.

Game News: Unreal Tournament 3 will ship for PS3 and PC only this year, PC mods will work with the PS3 game. The Grand Turismo 5 Prologue was released, and the game looks great. Sony announced that 80 games will be available to download over PSN by March 2008.
Hardware: Want to be entertained? Well Sony announced a PSP entertainment pack, and the PSP has three new colors. on the way along with a PSP “redesign”. Remember that PS3 price cut? Well Sony firmly believes it will help the PS3 to reach 11 million this year.

Hardware: Sony’s new PSP design packs extra RAM as well as extra battery life. There’s also a possibility of the PlayStation 3 finally getting rumble.

Game News: Fable 2’s odd but unique way of handling in game combat and defeat was explained. During their press conference, they took the opportunity to announce that Xbox Live Arcade will be getting a refresh of games as well.
Hardware: Microsoft has four SKUs now. The fourth being the special Halo 3 360.
PC: FEAR has an expansion on the way. A prequel to the game Stalker has also been announced.

Game News:During all the commotion, Microsoft managed to sneak an update for the 360’s backwards compatibility list.

Game News: Super Smash Bros. has received a launch date. Nintendo announced a new WiiChanel title Check Mii Out. Another thing you might want to check out is the next step (no, that wasn’t a pun) for Nintendo’s mass market games: WiiFit. While we’re on the topic of online and games, the Wii is going to have some new online enabled games hitting the shelves

Hardware: Nintendo was pleased to debut the the Wii zapper.

Niko shows a Wii “peripheral” designed to make the Wii a more party-friendly console, complete with cup holders! The Virtual Console for Australia has been updated, check it out.
