E3: Peter Moore Debates Price Cuts
July 12th, 2007 by Brian Lockhart in E3, PlayStation 3
Of course it wouldn’t be too long before someone from the Microsoft camp would pipe up about the big price cut on the Playstation 3. So what did they think in the end? Basically the same thing most of us thought, it wasn’t enough, and it won’t really change much in the market. Of course, Peter Moore has his only nice little spin on it. While of course, the price did get cut, to the general consumer, when going to look at consoles this year, they will still see two SKU’s both with the same pricepoint regardless of what changed.
“They’ve added greater value at the same prices. Which to me is not a price cut. I don’t want to be anal, but I read “price cut” and I expected to see USD 399,” he continued. “When I hear the words “price cut” I expect to see a price cut.”
I think it has achieved basically the best scenario. The fence sitters who have held out knowing the price would be reduced have now rushed to pick up the consoles. Those who really weren’t interested in a PS3 won’t be swayed, that will depend on their upcoming lineup.
