The one time president and COO of Sega of America Peter Moore and now soon to be former corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft is going to be heading off to Electronic Arts. This coming on the heels of E3 is actually rather surprising, but apparently the timing of this move was forced upon by EA. With the recent splitting of EA into four different divisions, Moore will have the luxury of leading EA Sports and thus further molding franchises such as Madden and NBA Live. While at Sega he was famous for making the 2K Sports series’s rival and in some ways even surpass EA’s sport franchises. This experience makes him a superb fit to take helm of EA Sports.
Moore will be replaced by Don Mattrick, a former Electronic Arts executive who has served as an adviser to Microsoft on video games for the past six months. Moore will stay at Microsoft until Sept. 1, though Mattrick will start his new job on July 30.
This has since been confirmed at the official Microsoft website. Aside from Moore’s passion for sports, it is believed that the big reason for his move to EA is to be closer to his family. EA is located in the San Fransisco Bay area, which is also where his family resides.
Since Moore will be leading EA Sports, we can all hope that he can put a spark into the division and in turn give us even better sports titles in the future.
