Company of Heroes Online Announced
THQ and Chinese development company Shanda Interactive Entertainment have announced a co-development and publishing agreement for an online-only version of Company of Heroes, the former’s hit RTS game. Simply dubbed Company of Heroes Online, the game is being co-developed by Relic Entertainment, creators of the series, and Shanda. It will be released across mainland China sometime next year; no release date for other regions was mentioned.
“This new deal is a significant milestone for THQ as it supports two significant growth drivers for the company – building our product offering across Asia and expanding into new digital revenue streams,” said Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. “Shanda’s leadership position in the online space makes them the ideal partner to serve as both co-developer of Company of Heroes Online and operator of the game across China.”
The game will deliver a “persistent” experience for online gamers, letting players build up their characters from private to general through multiplayer cooperative missions, gameplay modes, and PvP combat. No other details were announced.
