Nintendo Wii Release Plans For 2007

July 25th, 2007 Posted in Wii

In a recent press release following up on their successful NPD figures, Nintendo has painted the bright picture of just how much software is on the horizon. While retail numbers sound great, the virtual console math doesn’t quite work out the way we’d expect it to:

“Wii already boasts more than 180 games, including 120 downloadable Virtual Consoleā„¢ titles. By the end of the year, that total number will climb to about 330 games, including an additional 100 new games from every major third-party publisher, along with an additional 50 Virtual Console titles.”
Oddly enough, 50 virtual console games doesn’t seem to uphold the current three a week release schedule. That merely works out to an average of 2.3, meaning most Monday’s we would be expecting two titles if this estimate is true. Is Nintendo slowing down the virtual console support somewhat? Obviously it has absolutely nothing to do with the vast library they still have under lock and key.

While the virtual console isn’t as impressive, 100 new titles for 2007 should nearly double the Wii’s current library. Lots of gaming goodness to look forward to in the immediate future, with hopefully a few surprises along the way.
