OXM Goes Digital On Xbox Live

July 26th, 2007 Posted in Xbox 360 by Brian Lockhart

Print-magazines are a dying breed these days. The Internet has often rendered news discovered in magazines obsolete. Even if they do report new news, you can guarantee someone else who has received the magazine early has already hit the Internet with the important details. It was however demo disks that were long keeping magazines afloat. With Xbox Live though essentially achieving the same thing, but better, we had nearly written out OXM as viable.

However, recent exclusive demos, like Eternal Sonata with this month’s copy have proved that as long as exclusive content can be scored, it’s worth subscribing. Now though, realizing another option needs to be included to keep the magazine viable, OXM is taking the next step.

“Sometime late this month (July) we’re kicking off a project on Xbox Live Marketplace called OXM Digital… Think of it as a digital digest of our mag, but with lots of exclusive interactive content, including gamer pics, themes, videos, galleries… stuff we can’t do in print.”

The content on Live will cost 200 MS points and as quoted will be a copy of their magazine for viewing on your 360. While most of the content will be the same as the demo disk, certain portions may compliment each other. Such as one portion of an interview on the demo disk, and another portion of the same interview through the digital OXM. It doesn’t sound like enough to convince people to subscribe to both, but if you prefer to pick and choose issues for exclusive demos, it’s a convenient and easy way to do so.
