XNA Development Kit Supports Wii Remote

August 6th, 2007 Posted in News, PC, Technology, Wii

There have been numerous videos of the Wiimote being used with computers, but this takes things to a newxna-wii.jpg level. It turns out that Microsoft’s XNA Development Kit actually supports input from the Wii remote. Microsoft’s Chad Hower gave a demonstration at the Assembly Summer event. It should be noted that the support is solely for the PC games. Xbox 360 games can’t be programmed to support the Wiimote. It will be interesting to see just how far developers for the PC will exploit this. Of course, this could also mean that we’re just going to see an army of party games and PlayStation 2 ports for PC.

It’s still unknown whether XNA will work with the nunchuk or not, but there isn’t any reason why it wouldn’t.

It doesn’t smell good. Why should Wii Remote come even at PC? Stay for Wii only, damnit.

Ok now I expect the SixAxis to come out for PC, too.

This has nothing to do with Microsoft, XNA or the 360. It just so happens that it is possible to manipulate the wiimote on a PC, hence you see people doing just that.

This story has been stretched far from its original intention of showing that you can use the wiimote on a pc and it just so happens to be shown via a simple xna demo.
