This console generation was a huge revelation that it doesn’t take the best technology or latest and greatest formats to win the war. It’s tough to argue that something like the Wii is a technology superior system, but if most gamers aren’t even aware of the High definition or Blu-ray in the consoles they own, it doesn’t really make a difference.
The first scary statistic is the percentage of 360 and PS3 owners who know their system contains High definition. Only a mere 30% of 360 owners compared to 50% of PS3 owners understand the feature of the system. The difference is due to the PS3 still being made up of primarily early tech adopters. If that isn’t bad enough only 40% of PS3 owners know about the Blu-Ray in their system, and half of that actually use it.
These are truly scary statistics, since both of these systems are highly priced and promote these features, if the majority of users don’t even know about them, apparently the message isn’t sinking through.

1Considering that the Xbox 360 does not come with any built in HD DVD player I don’t find anything that surprising about the aritcle. Unless they mean that people aren’t aware of what basic HDTV is … and that I find hard to believe because that is not confined to gaming at all. So really the article should have used a PS3 pic because it is very shocking that people who own this are clueless about Blu-ray.

2The formats.. either came out just in time for the hdtv’s since the world should be in hd by 2010 or people dont care dvd is good enough for movies. How dare a company that brought out dvd’s to replace VHS and then stab us in the back? Now, DVDs are awesome.. clean sound, picture and no more rw and ff crap again.
So many people in the last 2-3 years just got into the dvd stage and left VHS. So many people spent thousands of dollars of this format. How can u expect someone to drop all of their investments to their collections? All my friends took their vhs and donated them to the state, had no use for them. They replaced all of their movies with dvds.
ATM, dvd is still working for the 360. Shoot, the ps3 game ROFM was only 4.7 gbs big. That fits on 1 single layer dvd. The dvd format isnt dead yet. Now, next console war.. I see hd dvd and blu ray needed badly for the next wave of 15-25 gb big games.
Yes, the hd dvd and blu ray are awesome. But the average american cant afford this crap every 5 years to pick up their collection and go buh bye collection. At first, I loved the blu ray.. the name was so cool and shit. Now, the hd dvd is a better buy.. It has both versions on 1 disc, 1 side is dvd and the other hd dvd. So, if u have a big collection of dvd movies.. ur basically adding to ur dvd collection. 2 for 1.
