New Xbox 360s Still Use 90nm CPUs

August 15th, 2007 by James Hyde in Articles, Business, Hardware, Technology, Xbox360

The recently HDMI upgraded Xbox 360 Premium editions still use the same old 90nm Xenon CPU. However, the new consoles are equipped with an additional cooling block, which should, in theory, make the console more resistant to all those overheating problems. The guys over at NeoGAF forum dissected a new Xbox 360 premium, to find out what, if any, differences there were. Microsoft did make a bunch of smaller changes to the mainboard, although the crucial parts remain the same. As mentioned earlier, the CPU is still the old 90nm one, even though smaller 65 nm CPUs are in production. This means we’ll probably see the new CPU in consoles in a few months, just in time for the holiday season.

  1. Anuban Says:

This is why I am waiting until next year … next year is the year I replace, upgrade, and buy consoles and PCs alike.

  2. The Wicker Man Says:

Man, they should come out with a console where u can upgrade. Switch drives, switch processor’s.. add more memory to speed up the loading. That would be sick as hell :-).
