Another year, another football season, another round of Madden NFL. This year’s version of Madden has hit the stores, available on 10 (ten!) different platforms, that’s gotta be some sort of record, even for EA.
GameSpot (85/100) “Madden 08 seems to represent a tipping point of sorts for the series. You feel like the game is right on the brink of getting back to where it was four or five years ago in terms of stature and innovation.”
IGN (87/100) “Madden NFL 08 is a great game. It’s certainly the best Madden since the 2005 edition and a worthy offering for the new generation of gaming. The new animation system is outstanding and the game itself plays wonderfully.”
1UP (90/100) “You’ll find a much smarter brand of football in 08: Quarterbacks now scramble when no one is open, wideouts continue to make blocks 30 yards downfield, and defensive backs rarely fall for the deep ball. Some might even say that pass defense is a tad too stingy this season.”
GameSpy (90/100) “While it has been difficult to wholeheartedly recommend a Madden football game for a few years, Madden NFL 08 is a significant improvement over the series’ past, and has refined the formula in such a way that it actually brings something new to the game.”
Note: The reviews were based on the Xbox 360 version, which runs at a constant 60 fps, while the PS3 version runs at 30 fps, as several PS3 version reviews also point out.

1Great game, finally smooth fps finally.. They actually let u custom ur stats on create-a-player and create-a-team.
Still the game lacks smart AI.
I’m a real life quarterback.. Im an all around athlete, I can run, throw, catch and tackle. Now, Im not the size of a big lb and start causing fumbles. But, I know how to use my blockers since I run for my life lol.
What I love about this game is when I run, I run a certain a way so my blocker will run into the defender. In the current gen madden, I noticed they dont do that. You try to run and do cut and let ur o line smack the d line they just stop and turn around. In the current gen the running sucked, i thought nfl 2k5 did a great running game.
Madden 08 finally has a great running game, the passing game is harder but real to life. You cant just throw bombs all day long, u cant whore mike vick now.. cb/lb are yards away watching u.
My biggest beef with madden 08/ncaa 08 is that people just fumble all day long. Fumbles that arent suppose to happen, it’s like really random or scripted so the computer sticks with u. I do like the int feature, in rl defenders hands arent made out of bricks. Now if u just throw the ball up with more than 1 defender ur screwed.
Another thing I noticed when i said it lacks AI is that the wr’s are dumb as FUUK sometimes. I would throw a slant route and he would and get hit in the face with the ball and lift up his hands. Another thing, on post or long rails they just run sometimes. 1 thing, nfl 2k8 did great was letting u hold ur boost and jump so u would a massive jump for the ball.
I dont think this feature will ever be fixed since it’s basically on the new engine for this gen of madden. If u played 06/07 ur basically playing the same game. Just new features like the hit stick 2.0,more tackles, better catches.
Overall, I give it a great rating.. They need a real broadcast.. I still give it a 95/100. EA finally put something out worth playing, but NCAA 08 is garbage atm. Amazing how they keep using old technology for that game. You can get 60 fps for madden but 30 fps for ncaa?
come on!
