Guerilla: Killzone 2 Only Possible on PS3

September 5th, 2007 Posted in Action, FPS, PlayStation 3 by Rajiv Ashrafi

killzone_art1.jpgThe latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine carries an interview with Guerilla Games in which the studio’s Managing Director Herman Hulst stated that Killzone 2 is “only possible on PS3.” He said this while talking about exclusively developing for one console only. “It’s a huge benefit. If you’re developing a game on multiple platforms there are restrictions you always have to take into consideration.” Hulst added that they are taking “huge advantage” of the architecture of the PS3 and that it would be “difficult, if not impossible, to deliver on a competing machine.”

Fellow Guerilla Steven Ter Heide, producer of the upcoming game, reflected his sentiments. “I would say [It's] impossible. We literally can’t do this stuff on any machine other than the PS3.”

The main strength of the PS3? It all lies in Blu-ray, he says, pointing out that the recent demo level shown was taking up 2GB space. “We really need Blu-ray to make the game. I don’t know how you could fit it on Xbox 360 without taking some shortcuts.”
