Sony Pictures: PS3 Critical to Blu-ray Success

September 7th, 2007 Posted in PlayStation 3 by Rajiv Ashrafi

ps3It’s no wonder the Blu-ray team is doing so well – it has Sony and its PS3 behind it. That sentiment is reflected exactly by Rich Marty, a senior executive at Sony Pictures who held the console responsible for the HD discs success: “PS3 is critical to the success of Blu-ray – it is a platform for at least the next 10 years and it’s not some kind of short term solution,” he explained.

He predicts some “exciting market developments” around the console in the coming months, though he wouldn’t elaborate. He also compared the console to the PS2 which had used DVD as optical media. “We saw this with PS2 and DVD where the console was integral to DVD’s rapid establishment. We anticipate a similar reaction with PS3 and Blu-ray disc.”

Various reports have continuously stated that Blu-ray is performing leaps and bounds better than HD-DVD. We all know by now who’s responsible for this.
