Pachter: $399 PS3 by April
September 8th, 2007 Posted in Business, PlayStation 3
Michael Pachter, an analyst from Wedbush Morgan, is predicting that Sony will be issuing yet another price cut for their flagship console.
“We think that Sony’s recent announcement of an IPO for its financial services unit (with an estimated $3 billion in proceeds) could forebode another PS3 price cut early next year. We believe that the company is interested in subsidizing sales of the console in order to stabilize its market share in the games market and grow its lead in the high-definition DVD market.”
Pachter said that he expects a $399 Playstation 3 no later than April 2008. Even if this marketing move does take place, the PS3 will continue to be the most expensive console of the current generation.

I think the Elite costs more than $399 so if Sony does drop the price of the PS3 to that then MS will have some competition from them finally. For $399 you get a blu-ray player … that alone is going to really spur sales of the PS3 and may help to end the format war. I just don’t see it happening though … it sounds to good to be true.

By April BD players might go down in price too, so its possible you could find a cheaper player and not have to buy the PS3 for Blu-Ray
I would still rather get an Elite than a PS3 though.
Tons of games, many exclusives, huge online community, optional HD, 1080p and not just 720, Rumble, 120 GB hard drive, rumble…
I just see better and more options coming from the Elite. The lack of interesting games for the PS3 doesn’t make it worth the price. I’d buy another PS2 because the game selection is enormous.

Oh hey, I just realized this is the same game who blamed the PS3 for the delay of GTA 4..
