August was a big software month, that was really about one thing, and one thing only, Madden. While games like Bioshock or Metroid Prime may have been the more critically acclaimed, Madden ‘08 sale snagged 3 of the top 4 spots on the charts. The distribution though is extremely surprising. With the lowest install base, the PS3 version preformed pretty solidly, while the Wii version actually fell into position 12, just below the original Xbox version at spot 11 (not shown). While Bioshock had another week over Metroid Prime: Corruption sales were slightly over doubled. We do know that Wii games tend to have longer legs than competing consoles, but which of the two critically acclaimed titles grabs the highest lifetime sales are still up in the air. Finally, no handheld titles fell into the top ten, although Nintendo DS had four of the usual suspects sneaking into the top 20.

1These numbers do not quite match up with the ones provided by VGchartz so I wonder whose info is actually more accurate.
